Richmond Academy of Medicine Alliance

Community Initiatives

 ACCESS NOW
Access Now is a community partnership initiated by the Richmond Academy of Medicine in 2008 to improve access to specialty health care for low-income, uninsured residents of the greater Richmond metropolitan area. The program connects the primary care received in a local clinic or health system with donated physician specialty care in a coordinated referral program.

SACKs
RAMA prepares Sexual Assault Crisis Kits containing a change of clothing and toiletries to be delivered to area emergency rooms for use by victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse. These kits are in adult as well as children’s sizes depending on the need.  The kits are delivered to the following hospitals: Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital on Forest, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Mary's Hospital, and VCU Medical Center.

MEALS ON WHEELS

Members sign up to deliver meals to the handicapped, enfeebled, or home-bound people, including those with special dietary considerations, on the first Friday and fifth Monday of each month, year round.  Participatory health projects such as Meals-on-Wheels encourage an awareness of the needs of the community through educational and service-oriented activities.

REMEMBER MY NAME

This is a yearly event that commemorates in a moving service, the lives of individuals in our community who have died from domestic violence.  RAMA members help by acting as hostesses and providing refreshments.
